summer is for reading

Having a great time reading many, many books for statewide reading selection committee. And reading the Black Eyed Susan nominees for 2011-2012 school year. I have chosen one to start a book club at school.
Hoping to have a lunch bunch group and focus this year on BES twice a week. Students must read at least three books to vote for their favorite.
I liked this one -it's about a girl and her family, she likes to swim and dive especially. Her Dad, a former diver, is training her, once a week. Their house is a little chaotic and of course Callie thinks her life is very uncool. Lovely spring board for disccussions.
Can't wait!

Wonderful News

Been accepted to the Black Eyed Susan 4-6 Grade novel selection committee! Lots of books to read for next year's nomination list. Very pleased and looking forward to meetings. I plan to publish reviews from Goodreads to this blog. Stay tuned!

Better Late...

Instruction is evolving for me through this school year. Good to know I can experiment and learn from my students! We are in testing mode right now state wide for third, fourth and fifth grade students.
I have been doing centers with first and second grade. Takes a lot of planning but the students are enjoying the rotations.
I have built two wikis one for fourth and one for fifth grade. All my students in those grade levels are using wikis to reserach. Fourth grade is looking at the Titanic and willbe creating a project describing how thier fictional character survived. Fifth grade is examining the American Revolutionary period. Can;t wait to see what they create!
