back to work

This week I'm off because of the winter break. I am getting some house things done, cleaning, clearing, organizing and sewing, a little. Too many projects to do
Anyhow one thing I must get done before Monday is the page for my autism class. My school has two classes K-2 and 3-5 sorta. The younger students come to the media center on Mondays for a separate media lesson. This is in addition to their main stream media class- which each student some times gets to and sometimes not. It all depends on the student, the student aide and the materials we are covering. More about that later.
With the classroom teachers help we get a topic together. Lately it was a trip to the National Aquarium, we are outside of Baltimore and seasonal stories. I read Grandma's Latkes last and we made latkes at the end of the story.
Well we are down to the wire for next week and I chose Stella Louella's Runway Book. I haven't done any book care things with this class in the format I use. So I might do a week or two of that, always saving the lesson and papers for another year.
I use PowerPoint, one slide and choose 7-9 words from the story and illustrate with clip art. This is very similar to using Board Maker software that the autism classroom teacher uses to make up all kinds of materials, check lists, social stories. Now I am trying to figure out other ways to engage the autism students during regular media classes. The key is to make whatever as visual as possible. I have some stuff from other years but not nearly enough. What to do, what to do?
